Backup Formation

Starting with Player Level 75 players can unlock this functionality in Arsenal.

It allows deploying Backup Formations consisting of 3 units. The backup will enter the battlefield after 3 units are dead on the player's side (or fewer if the player deployed fewer than 8 units) but no earlier than 25 seconds after start of combat.

Acquire

Every player starts with the Charge Offensive Backup formation unlocked. Subsequent Backups can be unlocked by paying a specific amount.

Assistance Lineup

Each Backup formation has a fixed backup lineup. Because each Backup is composed of up to 3 units, each Lineup features 3 unit types placed in a fixed pattern. On deployment, the player will be able to adjust the lines (up-down) in which the Backup will attempt to fit in battlefield. The columns can't be adjusted and will always be the back columns in the formation.

Note that the units placed in the Backup Formation can not also belong to the Main Formation. For multi-formation modes it would seem the same unit can be used in one Main Formation also as a Backup for another Formation (tested with Trial of Angels).

Leveling Up

Every formation starts at level 1 and can be upgraded up to level 15. Leveling up is done by paying . See the table below for the cost for each level:

Special Skill

Each Backup formation has a characteristic Special Skill that triggers when the formation enters the battlefield and affects the friendly and/or opposing army for a specific duration. Leveling up the formation automatically levels up the Special Skill associated with it.

Battlefield Skill

Each Backup Formation also benefits from a Battlefield Skill that is automatically unlocked at level 5. The Battlefield Skill features an effect available only for the selected Backup Formation, but unlike the Special Skill is available from the beginning of combat.

Battlefield Skills can also be leveled up independently up to level 15 using Energy Scrolls. The level can never exceed that of the Special Skill (Formation).

Global Skill

Starting with level 10, Backup Formations also unlock a Global Skill. The effect of it is similar to Hero Global skills and Bookshelf spells - you benefit from it at all times.

Like Battlefield Skills, Global Skills can also be leveled up independently up to level 15 using Energy Scrolls. The level, again can never exceed that of the Special Skill (Formation).

Availability

The Backup Formations are disabled in Steadwick, Battle of the Gods, Clash of Gods, Kingdom Championship, Crypt and Dwarven Treasury play modes.
